An impressive mobile market data application has hit the market.
Interactive Data Corp. has brought the comprehensive feature set of its desktop workstation into a tablet version. For now, it's just for the iPad, but because the app was built with HTML5 technology, an Android version could easily be rolled out if demand warrants it.
The app, Market-Q Mobile, offers real-time streaming market data.
In its tool set are watch lists, highly interactive charting, fundamentals, related news and analytical tools, all of which are touch-sensitive. On any given security or asset class under scrutiny, a user can pull between 200 and 300 data points.
"From a competitive standpoint, we are still one of the new kids on the block," said Virginia Pastway, who heads up product management for the wealth management section of IDC.
Compared with older competitors Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters, Market-Q's desktop version is new to the market. It has been out only for four years, though that has allowed the firm to be a bit more nimble in terms of development.
IDC already has a decent user base of about 40,000 licenses and 25,000 users on any given day.
Synchronization of data between the desktop and tablet versions is seamless.
IDC doesn't share pricing publicly.
