Only 132 signed up to Green Deal

loft insulationSo far there has been a slow take-up for green energy measures such as loft insulation

Eight months after the government launched its Green Deal scheme only 132 people have signed up to it.

The government said those households were now "in the process" of getting energy efficiency measures installed.

The figure is an improvement on June, when just four people had committed to the scheme.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) also said that just one person had reached the "live" stage of the programme.

That means they have had the work completed, and are making repayments under it.

Under the Green Deal, launched in January 2013, householders can borrow money to have improvements made to their homes, including double-glazing, insulation and more efficient boilers.

The savings they make on their energy bills should outweigh the cost of repayments.
