The US added 169,000 new jobs in August, adding to signs of recovery in the world's largest economy.
The addition of new jobs helped the unemployment rate fall to 7.3%, down from 7.4% in July.
The monthly data from the US Labor Department is is one of the most closely watched US economic indicators.
The data comes ahead of the September meeting of the US Federal Reserve, at which policymakers are widely expected to begin cutting stimulus measures.
